Oracle Announces Thousands of Job Cuts Amid AI Data Center Expansion
Oracle Corporation is preparing to slash thousands of jobs across multiple divisions, with some reductions potentially beginning this month. The layoffs stem from soaring costs tied to the company's aggressive push into AI cloud infrastructure, including high-profile deals with OpenAI, xAI, and Meta.
The cuts extend beyond Oracle's typical workforce adjustments, targeting roles the company believes could eventually be replaced by AI. Hiring freezes are already underway in the cloud division as Oracle grapples with a $50 billion capital expenditure forecast for fiscal 2026—$15 billion higher than previous estimates.
This restructuring comes ahead of Oracle's Q3 earnings report on March 10 and precedes plans to raise $45–50 billion in 2026 to fund its cloud infrastructure buildout. The moves highlight the growing financial pressures facing tech giants racing to capitalize on the AI boom.
